Book excerpt: Nigeria and Nigerians have acquired a notorious reputation for involvement in drug-trafficking, fraud, cyber-crime and other types of serious crime. Successful Nigerian criminal networks have a global reach, interacting with their Italian, Latin American and Russian counterparts. Yet in 1944, a British colonial official wrote that 'the number of persistent and professional criminals is not great' in Nigeria and that 'crime as a career has so far made little appeal to the young Nigerian'. This book traces the origins of Nigerian organised crime to the last years of colonial rule, when nationalist politicians acquired power at a regional level. In need of funds for campaigning, they offered government contracts to foreign businesses in return for kickbacks, in a pattern that recurs to this day. Political corruption encouraged a wider disrespect for the law that spread throughout Nigerian society. When the country's oil boom came to an end in the early 1980s, young Nigerian college graduates headed abroad, eager to make money by any means. Nigerian crime went global at the very moment new criminal markets were emerging all over the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a Christian—as a college student—do you want to be a feminist? Why would anybody want to be a feminist? And what, if anything, have Christians done to advance women’s rights? The answers lie in this book where the history of women preachers, the rise of the publishing industry, the creation of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century female seminaries and academies, and the work of feminist theologians is explored. This book introduces the Christian college student to a coherent story of First, Second, and Third Wave Feminism and how these interlocking histories overlap with Christian faith and practice. Designed for the student who has little or no knowledge of feminist histories, theories, and practices, this book offers timelines, reading lists, and glossaries to help orient the student in a field of study often filled with irony and contradictions. Furthermore, the influence of anti-feminists and the impact of visual culture tell a story of how power is made and how it is challenged. Throughout this book, students are invited to consider their relationship with feminism and to critically reflect on a position that holds true to their faith as they are experiencing it in the twenty-first century.

Book excerpt: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 After the film in her camera is mysteriously destroyed at a small-town festival, reporter Bernice Kreuger knows she’s found something worth covering up. She brings the investigation to her boss, Marshall Hogan. Along with the local pastor of a struggling church, Hank Busch, they find something much bigger than they expected—a demonic plot to enslave their town and, eventually, the world. The tiny college town of Ashton becomes the unlikely battleground in a cosmic clash between good and evil. Unseen by the human protagonists, armies of angels and demons wage war against one another in the spiritual realm for the souls of the people of Ashton. Up against supernatural forces, the future of the town seems bleak – but the power of prayer might be able to influence the outcome of the fight. This fast-paced thriller birthed an entirely new genre, setting the standard for spiritual suspense. It has since sold over 2 million copies worldwide, sparking a renewed interest in the concept of spiritual warfare.

Book excerpt: The story of Adam, Eve, "God" and "the Serpent" in the Garden of Eden is the true story of the miserable life we live as human beings on this earth. But our understanding of the fateful events in Eden had been solidly formed by the falsified mind-bending "Bible stories" we were told as children by parents and church ministers. And even as adults, organized religion still tells us the same illogical fables and somehow most of us have continued to reason and understand these crucial events that totally control our lives as children, despite the fact that they do not agree with common sense. So, "What is the Truth?" Jesus Christ came specifically to bear witness to the truth; Yahweh the god of Eden had him killed through his religious agents, who continue to muffle the truth and to mislead humanity. But The Final Testaments offers the true definition of the events in Eden. The Fall of the Human Souls; the Actual Original Sin; the Actual Genesis of this World; the Diabolic Nature of Yahweh the God of Eden; the Actual Antichrist or the Expected "Immanuel"; Who really Killed Jesus Christ-all these and more are authoritatively revealed.

Download Paul, the Apostle of Jesus Christ PDF by Ferdinand Christian Baur Full Free and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-05-28 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baur's Paul, the Apostle of Jesus Christ was the major study of Paul published in the nineteenth century, and it is one of the greatest works of all time on Paul. It lays the basis for modern Pauline scholarship. The first part, "The Life and Activity of the Apostle Paul," consists of a thoroughgoing deconstruction of the account of Paul found in the Acts of the Apostles. While the author of Acts passed on historical traditions about Paul, he greatly embellished them with stories about the miraculous feats of the apostles, and constructed the entire account to show fictitious parallels between the apostles Peter and Paul. The second part, "The Epistles of the Apostle Paul," is divided into three main sections: the authentic epistles of Paul (Galatians, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Romans), the deutero-Pauline epistles (Ephesians, Colossians, Philippians, Thessalonians, Philemon), and the Pastoral Epistles (1 and 2 Timothy, Titus). In the first two parts Baur's historical-critical skills are at their finest. The third part, "The Apostle's Theological Framework," draws the elements of Pauline theology into a magnificent synthesis, where the influence of Hegel and Schleiermacher is evident. The earlier English translation is no longer adequate. Our new translation presents a very readable text with critical annotations and translations of all the scriptural passages quoted in Greek. Baur on Paul truly becomes available in English for the first time.
