This book was released on 2005-11-04 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frontline employees represent the bloodline of an organization. This applied dissertation focused on development of a training program to improve skills necessary for quality student-customer service. Six research questions were answered. First, what skills are required to enhance customer service satisfaction? Second, what are employees' perception of attitudes and expectations relative to delivery of goods and services? Third, what action is required to improve employees' performance to effect customer satisfaction? Fourth, what content-- knowledge, skills, and procedures--are necessary for inclusion in the training plan? Fifth, how can training best be structured and developed to improve the necessary skills? Sixth, how and by whom should the plan be implemented, and if implemented, how should it be evaluated? The development problem-solving methodology was used to answer the research questions. Additionally, a Frontline Service Employees' Perceived Training Needs Survey was administered to gather information relative to the recommended training program. The research questions were answered through procedures that involved formative and summative committees' examination of the program content, format, design, and evaluation method. The final project was a recommended frontline service employees training program. Conclusions drawn from the study revealed the following: (a) a training program should be implemented to enhance skills required for better student-customer services within the organization; (b) a training program for frontline employees should include skills pertaining to active listening, trust and rapport, telephone etiquette, problem-solving and conflict resolution, and clear understanding and knowledge of the organization's policies and procedures; (c) trainees should have the choice and flexibility of mode of instruction and location of training; and (d) an evaluation plan should be established posttraining to ensure that quality and program objectives are continuously being met. The recommended training program was submitted to the leaders of the organization who have the authority to approve its implementation.

Book excerpt: For those who wish to learn or teach the tools of skillful communication, this book provides concrete insight into what makes a person a successful communicator and guides readers in ways to improve their own communication skills and those of others. Predicated on four simple notions – that communication can be done well or poorly, that communication skills matter, that people differ in those skills, and that those skills can be improved – the book helps readers identify and enhance their own communication strengths and address weaknesses, assess the communication skills of others, and coach others to improvement. Written in an accessible style, chapter highlights include an engaging review of the research on the practical implications of communication skills in our professional and personal lives. The nature of communication skill and issues in skill assessment are examined. Particular attention is given to understanding sources of communication-skill deficits and the design of effective communication-skill training programs. A final chapter examines the roles of technology, cross-cultural interaction, and aging as they relate to communication skill. This book is written for students and professionals in fields such as human resources, sales, training, counseling, customer relations, education, health-care, and the ministry, with application for courses in professional communication, applied communication, and communication skills at the undergraduate, advanced professional degree, and continuing education levels.

Book excerpt: Evaluating skills and knowledge capture lies at the cutting edge of contemporary higher education where there is a drive towards increasing evaluation of classroom performance and use of digital technologies in pedagogy. Developing Educators for the Digital Age is a book that provides a narrative account of teacher development geared towards the further usage of technologies (including iPads, MOOCs and whiteboards) in the classroom presented via the histories and observation of a diverse group of teachers engaged in the multiple dimensions of their profession. Drawing on the insights of a variety of educational theories and approaches (including TPACK) it presents a practical framework for capturing knowledge in action of these English language teachers – in their own voices – indicating how such methods, processes and experiences shed light more widely on related contexts within HE and may be transferable to other situations. This book will be of interest to the growing body of scholars interested in TPACK theory, or communities of practice theory and more widely anyone concerned with how new pedagogical skills and knowledge with technology may be incorporated in better practice and concrete instances of teaching.

Contrary to existing books which address legal issues in HRM from a narrower focus or specific issue (like sexual harassment, performance appraisal or employment termination), this book provides a comprehensive and in-depth look at legal issues, regulations and laws which govern all aspects of human resource management—recruitment, selection, placement, performance management (i.e., employee training and development), benefits and compensation—and specific issues such as job analysis, sexual harassment, and the like. The contributors to this book offer their insight derived from their own research and practical experience with the HRM legal and regulatory environment/world of work. More specifically, the contributors examine, analyze and discuss challenges, issues and opportunities related to HRM legal and regulatory issues and the implications for employees and their organizations while emphasizing the importance of navigating such laws and regulations to the employment cycle and toward sustainable competitive advantage in today’s and tomorrow’s organizations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: School social workers engage in different forms of consultation on a daily basis, yet they rarely think about or describe this work as 'consultation.' Further, school social work practice research finds that consultation is among the most frequently performed practice tasks, yet consultation is rarely defined in school social work literature or research. This book adapts the consultation theory and practice framework put forward by June Gallessich (1982) that defines consultation in specific terms and proposes that there are six models of consultation. These models are organizational consultation, program consultation, education and training consultation, mental health consultation, behavioral consultation, and clinical case consultation. The models are differentiated according to their problem focus, outcome goal, intervention methods, change processes, power base, and value system. School social work consultation services are an important pathway to help school systems fulfill their educational mission and to help school personnel become more effective in their professional work. It is consistent with current trends in educational policy that call upon school social workers to take a multisystem approach to addressing school needs on a school-wide, class-wide, or individual level. The overarching goal of the book is to provide school social workers with the knowledge, skill, and confidence to implement consultation services. Consultation is a powerful method to 'realize the promise of the whole-school approach' and to help homes, schools, and communities foster school success and student well-being.
