Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being a Christian is more than ascribing to a set of religious rules, regulations, and rituals. It’s a living, dynamic, and growing relation¬ship with the God of the universe. This book is written as an informative and inspirational devotional that focuses on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ. It’s filled with many of my personal stories, analogies, insights, and failures. Places in this book are raw, honest, and uncomfortably transparent (for me). I share with you the lessons I’ve learned and the lessons I’m still learning along my spiritual journey as a follower of Jesus for over 30 years. This book is the first of four volumes. It’s laid out in such a way that it provides both a general overview of each chapter in Matthew’s gospel as well as practical applications for daily living. Each chapter follows a similar format: (1) brief observations from the chapter, (2) unpacking one portion of scripture, (3) suggestions for an area of personal application, and (4) an honest prayer. I’ve written this book with three kinds of people in mind. First, I want to inform the spiritual truth-seeker about the God of the Bible, and in particular, Jesus Christ. Second, I want to encourage those of you who find yourself in a season where you’ve grown tired and weary in your faith journey. I want to encourage you in God’s grace and truth as well as inspire you to follow Him anew. Third, I hope to challenge those of you who consider yourselves seasoned Christ-followers. I’m endeavoring to present Jesus to you in an authentic, relevant, prophetic, and biblically accurate manner. I hope you are stirred to deeper faith, stronger love, and full-hearted action. Living the God-life is a thrilling journey; one that is truly alive!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2000, the Smithers Canadian Reformed Church called Wes Bredenhof to be a missionary working among the First Nations in north-central British Columbia. The Gospel Under the Northern Lights tells the story of how that call came to be and how it was carried out. The forests and mountains of BC seem to naturally produce heaps of characters, stories, and adventures. This memoir introduces you to some of them. Along the way you'll hear of what a privilege and challenge it is to be a messenger of the gospel to a broken world and how that good news of Jesus Christ is still what it is desperately needed among all nations.

Download Losing Church PDF by Michael J. Gehring Full Free and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-01-14 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Ft. Smith, Arkansas, to Princeton, New Jersey, to Kernersville, North Carolina, with a stop along the way in Asbury Park, New Jersey, to pay homage to "The Boss," Michael Gehring takes us on his journeys as a pastor at a pivot point in history for the church and the world. Along the way, we meet up with a fascinating array of characters: Barbara Brown Taylor, Albert Einstein, Ernest Hemingway, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Jesus's forerunner, John the Baptist, to name just a few. But it's the questions Gehring raises that make this book not only entertaining, but compelling reading for individuals and small groups: How might the decline of the church lead us into rediscovering the gospel? Did clergy, and all of us for that matter, make a good choice investing in institutional Christianity? How would you describe the emotional price of love? What does living a soulful life look like? With the humility and genuineness of someone who doesn't pretend to have it all figured out, Gehring is the perfect travel companion. Come along.

Download Following Jesus PDF by Phillip C. Thrailkill Full Free and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-10-17 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two questions are braided together in Luke’s Gospel. Who is Jesus, and what does it mean to be his student and apprentice? The church has spent much of its intellectual energies on the first question, but not so much on the second. We are precise in our Christology and vague in our Discipleology (my new word!). Of the four biographies that open the New Testament, Luke is perhaps the best equipped to answer the question of what it means to follow Jesus along with others, and what we can expect in the process. Luke’s Gospel is dense with story after story about Jesus’s stumbling, goofy, persistent disciples. And his second volume—Acts—continues the tale. There is a deep continuity, as Luke teaches, between Jesus’s original disciples and the ones who later declared their allegiance to him after his resurrection. We walk in the footsteps of pioneers in this new way of living with a Jesus who is always near but just beyond sight. The aim of this book is to plunder the fruits of New Testament scholarship, especially the tools of rhetorical and narrative criticism, to highlight what an incredible adventure came with the call to follow me.

Download The Gospel in the Dock PDF by Bryan M. Christman Full Free and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-08-10 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: C. S. Lewis famously penned the phrase "God in the Dock" and proposed that there was a "great divide" between ancient and modern humans, in that our ancestors would have rightly seen themselves "in the dock" before God, while we moderns have placed God there before us. But what if what God's love most desires for us, the gospel or "good news" of the only way of life for humanity, has been "in the dock" before us from the time of Adam and Eve? And what if it is also the case that the gospel is often "in the dock" as though it is not good--even for the church? This book builds upon and expands the "life and death" stakes Lewis proposed by demonstrating that the gospel way of faith itself has been placed in the dock by us and in many ways ruined our relationships with God, with our own selves, with one another, and even with the natural world itself which we are meant to "steward" for its good. In these pages the reader will discover why the gospel that requires faith is good news, but why we so tragically default to our divisive and self-destructive ways.
