Download The Long Shadow of Antiquity PDF by Gregory S. Aldrete Full Free and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-02-07 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vivid exploration of the many ways the classical world remains relevant today, this is a passionate justification of why we continue to read about and study the lives and works of the ancient Greeks and Romans. Challenging the way the phrase 'That's just ancient history' is used to dismiss something as being irrelevant, Greg and Alicia Aldrete demonstrate just how much ancient Greece and Rome have influenced and shaped our world today in ways both large and small. From the more commonly known influences on politics, law, literature and timekeeping through to the everyday rituals and routines we take for granted when we exercise, dine, marry and dress, we are rooted in the ancient world. Even the political upheaval, celebrity obsession and blurring of public and private boundaries that we see in current news betray ancient characteristics - now brought to the fore here in a new final chapter. If you have ever wondered how far exactly we still walk in the footsteps of the ancients or wanted to understand how study of the classical world can inform and explain our lives today, this is the book for you.

Download Trace Elements PDF by Hosam El-Din M. Saleh Full Free and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-09-05 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few years, we have witnessed increasing efforts dedicated to the scientific investigation and characteristics of trace elements. Especially in the field of human and animal nutrition, trace elements display a considerably attractive issue for research because they play an essential role in the nutrition of both animals and humans. Aquatic environments contaminated with trace elements are an emerging research area due to the toxicity, abundance, and environmental persistence of trace elements. Accumulation of heavy metals as a class of trace elements in various environments, and the subsequent transition of these elements into the food and feed chain, severely affects human health. The determination of type and concentration of trace elements is regarded as the first and most important step to follow the mechanisms controlling the dispersal and accumulation of trace elements. Element speciation in different media (water, soil, food, plants, coal, biological matter, food, and fodder) is pivotal to assess an element's toxicity, bioavailability, environmental mobility, and biogeochemical performance. Recently, new analytical techniques have been developed, which greatly simplified the quantitation of many trace elements and considerably extended their detection range. In this context, the development of reproducible and accurate techniques for trace element analysis in different media using spectroscopic instrumentation is continuously updated.

Book excerpt: The current Queen Ao Jiao who dominated the Azure Sea, had been reborn as the ninth lady of the Leng Clan of a foreign land. Who would have thought that trash would actually be a peerless genius among top elementalists! His talent was outstanding, yet he was pretending to be a pig to eat the tiger while leaning on a tree to conceal his strength. When the family suffered a calamity, who would turn the tide and restore their prestige? When the top elementalist school came to recruit new students, who was it that was able to amaze and shock the entire audience? In the continent's selection test, who broke the record and reached the top in glory? A sword, a book, a beautiful face. But when she met him, the Queen met the King, the firewood met the fire, and the burning flower of love spanned ten thousand years. He said, "If the people of the world bully you, humiliate you, slander you, I will destroy the world!" She said, "If someone loves you, kisses you, loves you, I'll give it up ..." From her point of view, this was an extremely good deal. In his eyes, it was an extremely arduous and dangerous journey to find a wife. Fire and dry wood? A pair! This was a strong alliance between strong men and strong women. This was a sweet pursuit by a running man.
